Duaiseanna Chroí An Phobail
The Duaiseanna Chroi An Phobail (Heart of the People), Youth Achievement Awards, were created by TFL after the death of our colleague Terry Enright. Roisin Moody and Stephen McGlade, former peer educators with the project, felt it would be fitting to recognise the talents, skills and struggles of local young people and acknowledge them by holding an award ceremony. The staff wanted to capture the spirit of the work that Terry represented and use the ceremony to honour and recognise his commitment and dedication to local young people, creating the Terry Og Enright Endeavour Award.
The first event was held in the Whiterock BMC building, and later moved to the City Hall in Belfast. This year’s event was held in St. Mary’s University College.
There are several award categories and the event has been instrumental in bringing the community together to celebrate the achievements of its youth. At a time when young people’s voices are silent and they continue to be portrayed very negatively in the media, we feel these awards are an essential part of our programme each year.
The award ceremony would not be possible without the support of our other youth organisations, which have been represented on the steering committee, namely the West Belfast Area Project & the Falls Community Council.
